| 内容記述 | "Nitobe Inazou is known as the pioneer who introduced Japanese culture to the West. ""BUSHIDO"" is one of his representative works written in 1899. The book was published in 1900 in Philadelphia, and in 1905 the 10^<th> edition was brough out. Comparing the 10^<th> edition to the first, the 10^<th> edition added about 19.6% more in the whole number of whole pages to the first one. In unit 5 especially, in which ""Jin"" was explained, 48% of it was redone. It seems like two dfferent ""BUSHIDO"" exsit. Why did this happen and what was Nitobe's intention when he added sentences to the first edition? There is one clear difference between the two version of ""BUSHIDO"". The first edition was created through the dialogue with his wife. He tried carefully to find how Western people feel about ideas from Japan, and to modify the ideas for conforming to the Western culture. However, when he made the 10^<th> edition, there was no dialogue with his wife. Meanwhile he became one of the well-known writers in the world for selling his book ""BUSHIDO"", and he realized the readers of his book were already so many people in the world. In 1905 when Japan won the Russo-Japanese war, he played a role as spokesman for his own country. What he tried to in the 10^<th> version of his ""BUSHIDO"" was not to explain to his wife from a cultural angle anymore. It was written for the readers who were interested in Japan from a political point of view." | |||||||||||
